Branch Spotlight: Charlotte, NC

When Janney opened its Charlotte, North Carolina branch office in 2003, it opened with a four-person team of three advisors and one Private Client Associate. Fifteen years later, the founding members of the office – now known as Carolina Wealth Advisors – are still with Janney and the office is now home to eight advisors and 13 total employees.

“What’s remarkable about the Charlotte office is that so many of us have been here since the office’s early years,” said Stuart Singer, Senior Vice President/Wealth Management, Branch Office Manager, and founding partner of Carolina Wealth Advisors. “Almost all of the original people that opened the office are either still with Janney 15 years later or have retired from the profession. I attribute this to the familial atmosphere in the office, where everyone is willing to help each other out and our doors are always open – to each other and to our clients.”

On May 17, the office celebrated its 15th anniversary by inviting clients to a special event at the Myers Park Country Club in Charlotte, NC. Janney’s President and CEO, Tim Scheve, and Chief Investment Strategist, Mark Luschini, were special guests at the event. Approximately 75 clients attended and were served wine and hors d’oeuvres as they enjoyed casual conversation with each other, their advisors and Janney’s senior leaders.

“We wanted to keep the event intimate and informal so that clients would have a chance to ask questions and talk with some of the firm’s top leaders and experts,” said Lisa Chavis, Registered Private Client Associate and social director of the Charlotte branch office. “Clients appreciate that the CEO of the firm would take time to come to Charlotte and spend one-on-one time with them. It demonstrates the beauty of Janney and the ideal size of the firm. It’s large enough to have all the necessary resources we need to effectively serve our clients, but small enough for the firm’s leaders to have face time in the field and with our clients. It’s difficult to demonstrate that extra level of care at a larger firm.”

The anniversary celebration isn’t the only event that the Charlotte office has held this year. The office tries to host events quarterly, with client appreciation events on a yearly basis. In March, the office held an educational seminar for clients on identity theft, which featured a guest speaker from Touchtone Investments who shared tips with clients on protecting their assets. The office plans to invite clients to another educational seminar in the fall on estate planning, which will feature an attorney as the guest speaker. “We started hosting these educational events this year and hope to continue them on a quarterly basis,” said Lisa. “We like to keep them small and informal with around 20 to 25 clients in attendance. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know our clients better and figure out what issues are top of mind for them.”
