Branch Spotlight: Marlton, NJ

When it comes to community engagement, Janney’s Marlton, NJ branch office takes a multifaceted approach to giving back and enhancing its presence in the region. The employees of the Marlton office are dedicated to their community—coaching youth sports, supporting local charities, and serving on numerous boards in the region. In 2018, they decided to give back to a cause that was different from its usual corporate sponsorships, thereby gaining exposure among a different audience and regional demographic.

The office’s community engagement efforts began about 10 years ago when they sponsored fundraising events for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, an organization supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families in the region. Since then, they have held holiday food drives for the South Jersey Food Bank and sponsored youth soccer programs in Marlton and Medford, NJ. Mark Shapiro, a Financial Advisor in the Marlton office, has volunteered his time to the Marlton Rec. Council as a soccer coordinator and coach. Clark Mangan, another advisor in the branch has been active in the Medford Youth Athletic Association, both as a coach and board member. Children of employees and clients have also played on the various athletic teams throughout the years.

“Giving back builds goodwill in the community and a collegial atmosphere within the office,” said Jack Franchi, Branch Office Manager of the Marlton, NJ office. “It is also the right thing to do. We give back to organizations based on the causes our employees care about, but we also consider what regional market and demographic we are trying to reach.”

Jack used that same approach when considering what other local organizations the office could support in 2018. While Janney maintains a strong presence in South Jersey with four branch offices spread across the region, Jack noticed a gap between the location of the Marlton office and the southwest section of the state. He saw an opportunity to broaden the office’s reach in a market that is not immediately within the radius of Janney’s other locations in Southern New Jersey. After consulting with Janney’s marketing team, he decided to sponsor the Broadway Theatre of Pitman, NJ, a successful community theater in South Jersey located about 25 miles from the Marlton office.

The historic Broadway Theatre of Pitman originally opened in 1926 and operated as a fully equipped movie and vaudeville theater. The theater relies on the contributions from sponsors like Janney to continue its ongoing revitalization efforts. Sponsoring the theater provided the Marlton office an opportunity to support South Jersey arts, while also gaining exposure in an area where Janney doesn’t have an immediate presence. It also presented an opportunity to reach a different demographic – an audience that attends theater performances as opposed to the families and parents of the youth soccer team.

“In a relationship-based business like ours, it’s imperative to connect with the communities in which we operate and to show our support for organizations making a positive impact,” said Jack. “It’s not just good for business, but it’s the right thing to do. Our sponsorship of the Broadway Theatre of Pitman will help build awareness and visibility for Janney in an area where we don’t currently have a presence, but it also demonstrates our support of a historic establishment committed to educating and entertaining our community.”
